Gifted Children in NZ

If your bright child is struggling at school, anxious or misunderstood - you are not alone.

If you’re parenting a gifted child and feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or alone — you’re not imagining it.

You might feel proud of their abilities and completely out of your depth at the same time.

Perhaps school says everything is “fine”… but home tells a different story.

Maybe your child is:

  • Anxious or overwhelmed

  • Intense, sensitive, or easily frustrated

  • Struggling to find true friendships

  • Underachieving despite clear ability

  • Masking at school and melting down at home

  • Questioning themselves — or their place

Raising a gifted or neurodiverse child can be deeply rewarding.
It can also feel isolating, confusing, and heavy.

You don’t have to navigate this alone.

Why this feels so hard

Gifted children often experience the world more intensely.

They may think years ahead of their peers — but feel their age emotionally.
They may crave depth — yet struggle socially.
They may appear capable — yet carry hidden anxiety.

When potential doesn’t translate into ease, parents are often left wondering:

What am I missing?
Am I overreacting?
Is this just a phase?

Often, it isn’t about doing more.
It’s about understanding differently.

How I can help

I work exclusively with parents of gifted and twice-exceptional children across Aotearoa New Zealand (online and in Taranaki).

In our session, we will:

  • Make sense of what you’re seeing

  • Explore your child’s unique characteristics, strengths and struggles

  • Identify what may be driving current difficulties

  • Discuss practical, realistic next steps

  • Strengthen your confidence as their parent

You don’t need a diagnosis.
You don’t need to wait for things to get worse.
You don’t need to have all the answers.

You simply need to be wondering.

A Little About Me

I am a parent of two gifted children, an educator, and the founder of the Taranaki Neurodiversity Trust and The Head Office — a one-day-a-week programme supporting gifted learners.

For over 15 years, I have worked alongside families and schools to advocate for the educational and emotional needs of gifted children.

Most importantly, I understand both the pride and the weight that can come with raising a child who experiences the world differently.

  • Thoughtful insights that help things make sense

  • Practical guidance you can actually use in everyday life

Booking a session

If this feels like the right next step, you’re very welcome to book a session.

There’s no obligation beyond the time we spend together — just a chance to feel heard, understood, and supported.

A gentle first step towards clarity and confidence.
